THE NEW WAY TO SPRING CLEAN
It’s officially spring & it’s the perfect time to do some ‘tidying up’ in all areas of life. My take on spring cleaning is that we do an audit in the following areas: mind, body, home & relationships.
SPRING CLEANING FOR THE MIND
Get intentional with your daily routines:
Our routines are incredibly influential on our overall health & wellbeing. Take audit of your morning & nightly routines. How do you start the day? Resist grabbing your phone first thing. If possible, ease into the day with intention. Some of my favorite things to do in the morning are morning sunlight exposure to regulate my circadian rhythm, eat a nourishing breakfast & journal any anxious thoughts before I start the day. Evening routines are just as important — setting boundaries with work and taking time to decompress from the day.
Boundaries with social media:
It’s time to spring clean your social media feed - the content we consume affects our mental health. Do the people you follow inspire you, add value to your life or do they make you feel like sh*t? We don’t have to consume content that makes us feel terrible. Go through your followers list & be mindful of the shows you are watching. If they are bringing you down, it’s time to unfollow.
Prioritize time in nature:
Spending time in nature helps to decrease stress and calm the nervous system. In modern-day society, people are spending so much time indoors glued to screens. Whether it be a nature walk, hike with friends or grounding on the beach prioritizing nature can help clear the mind + invite new, fresh energy.
Brain dump:
If you’re feeling overwhelmed & have many thoughts swirling around in your head - try jotting them out on paper. Journaling helps us to reflect & put things into perspective. Try focusing on things you are in control of and then taking it one small step at a time from there. You’re doing great!
SPRING CLEANING FOR THE BODY
Mindful, intentional movement:
This season we are choosing movement we enjoy. Long gone are the days where we use exercise to punish ourselves. Mindful forms of movement are a celebration of what our body can do. During the Spring, I love opting for outdoor workouts like hiking, beach walks and trail runs.
Nourishing meals w/ seasonal produce:
Building meals with seasonal produce is a great way to connect with spring energy. Here’s some of the fruits & vegetables that are in season: Asparagus, radishes, beets, carrots, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, artichoke, lemons, limes, grapefruit + more.
Support natural detox pathways:
Supporting these pathways is a great way to help facilitate our bodies natural detoxification. Dry brushing, lymphatic massage, adequate hydration, castor oil packs and sweating (with sauna or movement) are a few of my favorites.
SPRING CLEANING FOR THE HOME
Release items w/ negative energy:
Spring is a perfect time to purge + release items that carry negative energy or memories. Are you still holding onto that gift from your toxic ex? It's time to break free and let that sh*t go. Whether it's a trinket, a piece of clothing, or a memento, these items can hold onto negative energy and hinder your progress towards positivity and growth. However, It’s not just about ex-related items. Take a look around your space. Are there objects that bring back painful memories or remind you of times you'd rather forget? Consider donating or discarding them. Freeing your environment from these reminders can create space for new, positive energy to flow into your life.
Buy a new house plant:
Adding new plants to your space is more than just cute décor; it’s a natural way to invite fresh energy & enhance well-being. Not only do they purify the air, but plants also reduce stress and boost mood, creating a grounding and uplifting environment. It’s time to add some green to your space!
Plant an herb garden:
Planting an herb garden not only adds natural beauty to your space but also provides the opportunity to use fresh, flavorful herbs in your cooking. Having easy access to herbs like basil, rosemary, and mint can elevate the taste of dishes. These herbs also have numerous health benefits & are rich in antioxidants. Nurturing and tending to your herb garden can also be a therapeutic hobby.
Closet refresh:
A closet refresh isn't just about making space for new clothes—it's a chance to release old energy and embrace a fresh start. By decluttering and letting go of items that no longer serve you, you create room for new possibilities and positive energy. As you look through your wardrobe, consider the clothes that uplift and empower you, and say goodbye to those that weigh you down. Embracing this renewal process can extend beyond your closet, revitalizing your mindset and outlook on life.
SPRING CLEANING FOR RELATIONSHIPS
Friendship audit:
Spring cleaning isn't limited to our physical spaces; it's also an opportunity to assess the quality of our relationships. Take time to do a friendship audit, evaluating which relationships add value + positivity to your life and which ones may be holding you back. Letting go of toxic or one-sided friendships can be difficult but ultimately liberating, making room for connections that uplift and support your growth.
Prioritize “constants”:
As we let go of relationships that are no longer serving us, it’s important to prioritize the ones that do. I call these people “constants”. Those who consistently show up and support you through thick and thin. Take intentional steps to nourish these relationships, whether it's scheduling regular coffee dates, sharing meaningful conversations, or simply expressing gratitude for their presence in your life. Investing time and energy into these genuine friendships fosters deeper connections and strengthens the bonds that truly matter.
Organize a girls night:
Gather your closest friends and plan a girls’ night to celebrate the spring season. Whether it’s a cozy evening in with homemade spring mocktails and board games, or exploring different areas around the city its important to prioritize time with your inner circle. Girls nights are an opportunity to strengthen meaningful connections, create memories and nourish your soul with laughter + love. Get it on the calendar!
